How to Find Processor and Windows Capabilities

Checking for SSE2 Support

Note: this is for 32-bit processors only; 64-bit processors should all have SSE2.

Download the CPU-Z utility from:

http://download.cnet.com/CPU-Z/3000-2086_4-10050423.html

then install and run it. The CPU-Z window displays the supported instruction sets as shown in the examples below:

CPU-Z output with no SSE2

CPU-Z output on non-SSE2 processor

CPU-Z output with SSE2

CPU-Z output on processor with SSE2 support

Finding Service Pack Level of Windows XP

  1. Right-click the Start button.
  2. Choose the Explore command. Windows start menu
  3. Pull down the Windows Explorer Help menu.
  4. Choose About Windows. Windows Explorer Help menu
  5. The Version and Service Pack number are shown in the About Windows box: About Windows box

Finding Service Pack Level of post-XP Windows

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Right-click Computer.
  3. Click Properties. Finding Windows version - Windows 7
  4. The edition of Windows you are running is displayed under Windows edition near the top of the window. Finding Windows version - Windows 7
